Fred Patten Receives Shel Dorf Best Friend of Fandom Award!
IN 50 YEARS OF COMICS FANDOM. THERE IS ONLY ONE FRED PATTEN. IN THE 1960'S HE WROTE A LOT ABOUT COMICS FANDOM, SCIENCE FICTION FANDOM AND ANIMATION EQUALLY. His body of work is immense and great! He was inducted into the club this afternoon and proud and happy to be a new member!

THE OSDFC and E awarded OCTOBER 19, 2010 the Special OSDFC and E PROCLAMATION AND THANK YOU TO The San Diego Board of Supervisors. Read all about it in the San Diego County news HERE. They issued a proclamation honoring Shel and Ken after they passed away last November; thank you Supervisors! They were gracious and interested in our next event with Thor as MC, they have a foundness for us, Gabriel Wisdom and the club. Welcome, new pals. Shel's Mural Phase 1 in San Diego has begun. That’s what I practice with the Elder Statesmen that mentor me. Shel was more than a mentor and a great friend. He’s the persona of a man that changed this industry’s future. Great men like Shel, occur once in a lifetime. Networking with fellow artists, cartoonists, writers, and filmmakers, was his passion! Mentoring apprentices whenever you can, the Dorf Trademark. My greatest adventure with Shel, was at the King Kon and when he had me give Carmine Infantino and himself a tour of the city at the 1973 Con at Sheraton Harbor Island, that was unreal! Shel really loved SDCC, CCI and us. I have saved everything that Shel ever mailed me. Shel was the first El Cortez Alumni and a lifetime pal. He was there for me when my best friend died and when my mom nearly died. He helped me with my monthly cons, which I nearly forgot about, until the COMIC CON’S 40TH.
